We Start On
Full of mystery and adventure, Nagaland has always fascinated us. On this trip we explore Mon, home to the Konyak Tribes famous for their facial tattoos and headhunting past. We will learn more about Konyak culture with a local expert, spend time with village chiefs, visit markets, sample local cuisine and soak in the stunning vistas of the Konyak Tea Estate, the only one of its kind in Nagaland! After that we move to the neighbouring district of Wokha to witness the annual migration of the endangered Amur falcons that travel from Mongolia to Africa. If we get lucky we’ll witness the amazing spectacle of thousands of birds descending over the Doyang reservoir blocking out the sun, as we interact with local Nagas who are making the journey from hunters to conservators.
Ambika and Hoshner are the writer / photographer team behind the award winning, India focused travel blog, The reDiscovery Project. After quitting their jobs in 2015, the duo has travelled extensively around India, documenting it's Culture, Art and History and soaking in beautiful experiences in far-flung corners of the country. They invite other discerning travellers who are looking for offbeat, immersive experiences to journey with them reDiscovery style, and see another side of India!
A day trip to the Konyak village of Longwa where the locals can walk freely across the unfenced border between Nagaland and Myanmar and where ladies from Myanmar villages come to trade corn and buy supplies across the border.
We visit Hong Poi village where we'll meet, interact and take photos with the amazing tattooed headhunters as they gather in the village morung for some tea and gossip.
(view from the estate)
We stay at the Konyak Tea retreat in Shiyong village where we meet a Konyak expert who will help us understand the culture and tattooing practices. We will roam through the Coffee, Tea & Orange plantations, and feast on incredible home-cooked local cuisine while staring at stunning views over the Naga hills!

Travel to Wokha to witness the local Tokhu Emong festival of the Lotha people and join them as they celebrate with song, dance and food!
Our trip culminates at the stunning Doyang lake, where we can witness the bucket-list worthy Amur falcon migration. Thousands of these beautiful raptors roost near the lake after their long journey from Mongolia en route to Africa.

The best thing about WCH is that these guys are totally customer centric, right from booking accommodations to setting an itinerary! The itinerary itself doesn't feel like you're on some tour with a rigid schedule. It is pretty free flowing, but extremely well thought out at the same time. I recently went for their Windrush Rising trip in place of my cancelled Eurotrip and I genuinely believe it was one of the best decisions I made.
Trekking with WHC has been one of the most beautiful experience & with perfect team cordination & arrangments provided even at the top of the mountain Wouldn"t expected more, the vibe was just right with like minded people waiting for sunrise. Would highly reccomend everybody to go with WHC (you guys rock!!) thanks for being patient. Thanks Kunal for helping me till the end & Kuntal for sharing your experiences. & would love to trek again in any furture treks.
